The Tuttle Center at The Amsterdam at Harborside Receives Vaccinations

Press Release dated 12/22/20

PORT WASHINGTON NY — Residents and staff of The Amsterdam at Harborside will receive the coronavirus vaccine tomorrow beginning at 9 a.m.

Those targeted among the first wave of vaccinations are all of the residents in the Amsterdam’s skilled nursing unit (56 residents) and one-third of its staff. CVS staff members are delivering and administering the Pfizer vaccine.

“We feel grateful to be included amongst the first to receive the vaccine and glad to do our part in putting coronavirus behind us and getting back to life pre-Covid,” said Amsterdam Executive Director Brooke Navarre.

“Obviously, some of us are a bit nervous about being vaccinated, but the vaccine has added a new and important element to our community – hope and light at the end of the tunnel,” Navarre added.

Eighty-seven-year old Janet Lombard is among the Amsterdam’s skilled nursing residents who will receive the vaccine.

The second dose of the Pfizer vaccine is scheduled to be administered to residents and staff members exactly three weeks from the first. An additional third of the Amsterdam’s staff is scheduled for initial vaccination at that time.

Navarre is awaiting notification as to when the vaccine will be available for the rest of the Amsterdam’s residents. More than 300 seniors live independently in the Amsterdam community.

“Everyone here wants get back to life before Covid-19. This is an important step in the right direction,” said Navarre.
