Update from Brooke Navarre, Executive Director

The Amsterdam at Harborside had reached an exciting milestone.

As of today, we are COVID-19 free in Independent Living, and all levels of care in the Tuttle Center! This is a result of both our residents’ perseverance and cooperation during these challenging times, and the efforts of our amazing staff members.

All Tuttle Center residents were tested by NYS Department of Health, all with negative test results.

Staff testing is ongoing and is now required only once a week since Nassau County is currently in Phase 2 of its reopening plan. We have a few staff members furloughed in accordance with regulatory guidelines.

Current protocols remain in place as our residents are considered a vulnerable population, and therefore our return to normal operations will lag behind the general plan for Nassau County. We will continue updating our residents regularly.

We accomplished a great deal by being vigilant and unwavering in our approach. We continue to encourage our residents to wear masks, stay on top of hand washing and remembering to social distance. Coronavirus is still out there so we must stay strong so we can remain healthy.

As Governor Cuomo said, “We have tamed the Monster but must continue all efforts to avoid a spike or second wave of this unprecedented virus.”

As always, we are thankful for the appreciation and kind words from members of our community during this challenging and unusual time.
